Sara Thigpen is an award-winning actor and director whose work pairs rich, radiant warmth with a razor-sharp wit. Equal parts soulful and flinty, she brings a text-forward approach, an ensemble focus, and a touch of magic making to a wide range of new plays, classical theater, and film projects.

 

Originally from (very) rural North Carolina, Sara earned her BFA in Acting/Directing with honors from UNC-Greensboro. After a stint in regional theater on both coasts, she moved to NYC, immersing herself for 20+ years in downtown and developmental theater before expanding into film and commercial work. Across stage and screen, she serves as an unflappable anchor in the room: someone who grounds the ensemble while keeping an audience on their toes.

 

When she isn't on set or in the rehearsal room, you can find her studying human behavior in real-time on the 7 train, searching the city for the single, elusive, perfect white t-shirt (but in navy), or cooking and laughing with her beloved husband, Tim, in their Sunnyside apartment crammed with plants, too many chairs, and an ever-growing collection of shot glasses.
